Mijas is quite a large locality that spreads from the hillside outside Fuengirola to the coast. There are two sections to Mijas, commonly known as Mijas Pueblo (Mijas Town) and Mijas Costa (Mijas Coast). The town of Mijas is a beautiful white-walled village, traditional in many ways but now branching out into tourism, with the most spectacular view of the coastal area stretching from Calahonda in the West

to Malaga in the Torremolinos in the East. This view is breathtaking and is most likely the most enchanting view on the Costa del Sol.
The village of Mijas is home to a mix society of traditional Spanish country families, many of the older generation still living the
traditional Spanish life. There are modern elements to the town as well, with beautiful bars, restaurants and cafes offering everything from traditional Gazpacho soup to modern meals and drinks. Mijas is quite a busy town in the summer, but the long meandering road through the hills that approaches the town ensures that is it never crowded.
There are many deities to Mijas but one of our favourites are the "wild" fowl that roam freely around the streets, apparently untroubled by the ambling tourist here or there. These fowl can be found at the lookout spots located along the outer edges of the village where sheer drops and the view make for a beautiful afternoon or evening walk. The outer edges are built on a maze of concealed cavesand sharp crevices with birds and other wildlife still in abundance here.
Another aspect to the town of Mijas is the botanical gardens that adorn the lookout spots, with traditional Spanish and Andalucian plants marked for the attention of visitors. There are all kinds of beautiful

plant and flowers here that would interest even those only mildy acquainted with the flora of the world. The fact that they are traditional to the area and Spain adds to the cultural sends of Mijas Pueblo.
In fact the word cultural sums up Mijas perfectly as the winding streets with the markets, the donkey rides and the museum of small fascinating things (including the head of an intruder shrunk by indians in the last century) all come together to make Mijas a beautiful unspoilt village with the most amazing restaurants and bars and almost certainly the most amazing restaurant terraces in the region.
